Bioenterics Intragastric Balloon

The BIB is a soft silicone balloon that is inserted into the gastric cavity and filled with sterile saline for a maximum of 6 months.
Effect:
- Reduced Gastric Volume
- Lack of hunger/ early sense of Satiety
Advantages -
- Non-Surgical
- Minimal Risk as compared to other surgical procedures
- Useful to prepare the Morbidly Obese patient for a complicated procedure.
A BIB is indicated in the following conditions -
- As a one stage procedure for a weight loss of 5-10 kgs in low BMI with or without co-morbidities in patients not warranting any other bariatric surgery
- As an initial procedure in the super super obese category BMI>60 to gain weight loss of 20-40kgs before planning definitive surgery.
- As an initial procedure for patients unfit for anesthesia to loose weight.
Complications –
- Vomiting
- Food Bolus Obstruction
- Balloon rupture
